Tips on renting formal wedding attire....
Unless you are lucky enough to own your own tuxedo
, you and the guys in the wedding party will need to rent. If possible, the Groom, his best man, and the ushers should all wear the same type of suit rented from the same shop. The fathers of the Bride and Groom should always be dressed in accordance with the groom and the attendants. This looks better for pictures and in receiving line.
Before choosing formal wear for the men, the theme of the wedding should be decided on, will it be a casual sea side wedding or a formal church wedding? Select something to fit your wedding setting and the season, and one that will blend nicely with the other colors.
Shop for and reserve your tuxedos from 4 to 6 months in advance, in order to ensure availability, especially if you're getting married in the more popular months.
At the men's shop....
There are many tuxedo styles available: single or double-breasted jackets with notch, peak, or shawl lapels; double inverted pleated or merely pleated trousers with or without a fabric strip running down the side. By complimenting the colors in the bridesmaids dresses most of the color and personality of the men's wear will come from the cummerbunds, ties, vests, and shirts that are available.
Remember dark shoes and socks with dark suits, and light shoes and sock with light ones.
Always pick up the tuxes the day before the wedding so that if there's a problem, there will be time to fix it.
Have all the men try on their entire outfit when they pick it up so they can check for potential fit problems and have them fixed in time. Most men will be more comfortable in their own dress shoes - highly polished.
Suggestions for semi formal wedding attire:
For a summer afternoon wedding, if the Groom's suit is to be white or ivory, it should match the bride's dress. If she wears ivory, then he should wear ivory.
The Grooms attendants can wear suits and ties. For evening or winter, generally navy, black or dark gray is worn. A light white or ivory suit is worn for summer afternoons.
